Set in the ancient beauty of the Gilpin Valley, this hotel takes its name from the local legend of Sir Richard de Gilpin who bravely fought and killed a particularly ferocious wild boar close by.
Located in the open countryside of the National Park, The Wild Boar is ideally situated for both business and recreational pursuits.
The bedrooms at The Wild Boar range from classic to luxury with individually designed feature and luxury grade rooms, that have features such as log burning stoves and copper baths. Perfect if you are looking to treat yourself to something a bit special.
The Wild Boar itself is famous, historically for being the site where Sir Richard de Gilpin is said to have slain the last wild boar! And more present day for its classic British hearty menu with a strong emphasis on the very best seasonal local ingredients. The culmination of traditional décor and time-honoured ‘coaching inn’ ambience, warm welcome and friendly service, assures a home-from-home delight and a desire to linger! The new smokehouse and grill with open kitchen will only add to the atmosphere and inject a little theatre to the overall dining experience.
The latest addition to The Wild Boar, the Brewhouse was created to give a further boost to the provenance of our food and drink offerings at the Inn. With the expertise of master-brewer Tim Bloomer of the Fell Brewery we brew a selection of real ales in house which are available for you to purchase and enjoy at the Inn’s bar.
