Entrance Fees To Jedburgh Abbey

Explore one of four great abbeys established in the Scottish Borders in the 1100s. Built over more than 70 years, Jedburgh is striking for its unusual mix of Romanesque and early Gothic architecture.

See the remains of ancillary buildings where the brethren ate and slept, and the vast kitchen and cellar ranges. Then walk in the recreated cloister garden to reflect on life in the medieval abbey.

Some exceptional early Christian artefacts, which pre-date the abbey by several centuries, are on display in the visitor centre.

What to see and do:
– Enjoy the rare chance to experience an abbey church from the 1100s, along with its cloister and domestic buildings
– Take in its size – of all Scottish abbeys, Jedburgh may give the best idea of the scale of a major Scottish monastic house
– Compare the Romanesque and early Gothic styles of architecture of the huge abbey church
– Get a bird’s eye view from the walkways of the remains of the chapter house, refectory, dormitories, kitchens and cellars
– Breathe in the sweet scent of herbs in the recreated cloister garden – the same plants once used in the medieval abbey
– Sense the wealth and importance of the site from artefacts on display including a walrus ivory comb and a shrine remnant
– Take our fun fact-finding quiz while exploring the abbey available on site
