Christ Church is both Oxford University’s largest College and the Cathedral Church for the Anglican Diocese of Oxford. Visitors are welcomed throughout the year to enjoy Christ Church’s beauty and fascinating history.
Christ Church has a fascinating history and many distinguished people have studied here.
The Cathedral is the College Chapel for the College as well as the cathedral church for the Diocese of Oxford. The beautiful building is home to a vibrant worshipping community with a rich worshipping tradition and a world famous Cathedral Choir. It hosts a wide range of diocesan events, music, art and drama. It is visited by thousands of people each year who pray, worship, or simply enjoy the stillness and the profound sense of history it inspires.
Christ Church Cathedral Choir is 500 years old, yet is justly famous for the youthfulness of its sound and its daring and adventurous musical programming. Unique in the world as both Cathedral and College Choir, the intimate acoustic of its musical home has given it a relationship with early sacred music and the rhythm and vigour of contemporary idioms which is second to none.
Follow the footsteps of the world’s favourite wizard through Oxford’s most spectacular College. Many of the scenes in the Harry Potter feature films are shot in various locations of the College and as you walk around the cloisters and quadrangles it is easy to see why.
This continues Christ Church’s long association with children’s literature – Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland were inspired and written here by Lewis Carroll. If you enjoyed the film or the books, come and soak in the atmosphere of a real Hogwarts.
