“THE WORLDS FIRST RAILWAY HOTEL…..LUXURY REBORN”
London has a new 5 Star Hotel: the Great Northern Hotel. This is an exquisitely designed luxury boutique hotel with an extraordinary location, perfectly situated just 25 metres from the Eurostar terminus in the heart of King’s Cross St Pancras. Clients wishing to travel North on the East Coast lines (York & Edinburgh) are also on the door step of Kings Cross Train Station and staff will only be too happy to assist clients across the road with their luggage if they wish.
Victorian Era Modern Day
Old and new blended in perfect unison, this hotel has 91 luxurious rooms, featuring 3 breath-taking designs, with beautifully handcrafted furniture and original decor set against Farrow & Ball shades with stunning Lefroy-Brooks bathrooms and free high-speed Wi-Fi. Starting life in 1854 as one of the original Railway Hotels from the steam train era, the hotel was completely refurbished as a boutique 5 star with “a lifestyle property meets members club” feel, re-opening 3 years ago. The hotel works with a small selection of trade only and we are delighted to present this new addition to our portfolio. Discreet, exclusive service with some really interesting features set it apart. An almost understated entrance with a small personal check in sets the tone and gives the impression of arriving at a private residence. As well as room service, bars & stunning restaurant a great feature is a home from home “Pantry” - located on each floor where guests can help themselves to freshly made cakes, biscuits and other treats along with teas & coffee – all complimentary. The atmosphere is very relaxed and uniquely tranquil, a most unusual gem in the heart of central London and one well used by guests.
Stunning rooms, designed to pay homage to the classic Continental railway sleeper, the Couchette Rooms are compact & cosy yet do not compromise on style or comfort. Ideal for double for sole use, couples or younger family members. Ceilings are high and natural light is abundant thanks to large windows, some with views of the striking domed roof of King’s Cross. Clever design means the bathrooms retain their luxurious feel with bespoke fittings and walk-in showers.
The Wainscot Rooms are discreetly located in the top of the building directly under the eaves, with charming touches such as a sloped roof and feature windows. The rich décor and decadent furnishings make this room perfect for longer stays, a romantic weekend away or a perfectly quiet & relaxing start or beginning to any trip. Striking decor with clubby dark American walnut panelling and rich shades of plum characterise these top-floor rooms.
Named after the hotel’s master builder, Lewis Cubitt, these light-filled rooms offer high ceilings and views of regenerated King’s Cross through tall sash windows. The Cubitt has glamorous bespoke leather and walnut furniture. Eight of the Cubitt rooms feature stunning standalone roll top bathtubs with a handheld shower. The rooms are perfectly quiet despite their fabulous location.
No stay at the Great Northern Hotel would be complete without a visit to the GNH Bar, evoking the sleek lines of twenties Manhattan against Parisian culture. For a unique dining experience, The Plum & Spilt Milk restaurant is magnificent (named after the dining cars of The Flying Scotsman that first pulled out of King’s Cross) and serves well executed modern British dishes with laid back yet impeccable service.
Oh and one more thing – we HIGHLY recommend their signature dessert ‘Plum & Spilt Milk‘ which is just out of this world – we couldn’t get enough!!!
